Drinking water: for all, was, right from the start, the absolute priority. Our continuous efforts, combined with specific, punctual support, causes each household, today, to enjoy it regularly, in spite of sporadic problems (insufficient motorization of the pumping station, worn and exiguous water house).
Urbanization -Electrification Maternity Green Belt
Public health: constitutes our second main concern. Two medical centers and a maternity were built year after year. A small medical team, regularly supported by outside contributors, sees that it is operated properly, in spite, once again, of the blatant lack of equipment.
Desertification control: gradually turned out to be a first-rate requirement. Collective efforts to make up and maintain a green belt of several kilometers of boundary, one hectare of market-gardening perimeter and a palm plantation of a few hundreds of date palms, hitherto unknown in this area of Mauritania are still going strong. Their protection and irrigation remain, however a daily concern.
Transports daily between Mata Moulana - Nouakchott
The electrification process: constituted a remarkable step in the urbanization of the village. Carried out thanks to much invaluable support, it covers half of the village. Our will to expand is systematically countered with expensive, technical questions (increase in the production of energy , installation of supply transformers…).
Communication: finally, is given particular emphasis. Two 4WD commute daily between the village and Nouakchott city and we ensure the regular maintenance of the 50 kilometers track leading to the aforementioned Route de l'espoi or the Hope Road. At the entry of the village, we arranged a landing strip for private planes. An FM radio operator is in permanent contact with the capital, and, recently, the significant improvement of the national network finally makes it possible to communicate by cell phone.
Centre Multimedia - Accès A L´Internet Par Satellite
Social organization: this development is based on a commitment on the part of all the population. The economic conditions of the country compel the men to work in the city where they endeavor to intertwine family and community interests. Terre Vivante, an NGO of international status and personnel, was started in 1993. Its competence and seriousness are acknowledged by all through actions that largely exceed the framework of our region to national level.
Beyond this structure, our nationals are implied in all sectors of the society with, however, a clear preference for the areas of town planning, health, culture and communication. Within the village, it is women who ensure the social continuity.
Coopérative Féminine
The co-operative regroups more than 300 women who practice market gardening, ready-to-wear clothing, decoration and the weaving of splendid carpets. Active within mixed district associations (8), they monitor the life of the village. A second associative distribution segments the population by gender and age brackets. Each deals with precise tasks, holding regular assemblies and publishing quarterly periodicals. But beyond these distinctions, a global reality holds, that is recalled, lived, and shared on many occasions.
